Business Challenge: Although most modern smartphones support both a physical SIM and an eSIM, many Australians still carry two devices to separate work and personal life. The capability already exists, but awareness remains low. The challenge was to make eSIM easy to understand without resorting to technical explanations, while creating a distinctive campaign idea consumers could remember. Strategic Insight: The opportunity was not simply to explain eSIM, but to change an established behaviour. People naturally move between different versions of themselves throughout the day: professional and personal, focused and carefree, available and off duty. By framing two numbers around this familiar tension, the product benefit could feel human rather than technical. Creative System: We created Double, No Trouble, a campaign platform that transformed having two numbers from an inconvenience into a benefit. A playful inversion of the familiar phrase “double trouble,” the idea communicated a simple promise: consumers could keep work and personal life separate without carrying two phones. The platform was brought to life through two original mascots representing the competing sides of everyday life. One was sharp, ambitious and slightly demanding; the other was playful, impulsive and constantly encouraging escape from work. Rather than functioning as decorative characters, they became the campaign’s storytelling system, dramatizing the tension between both lives and making an invisible mobile feature immediately understandable. A split-screen visual language reinforced the proposition across every execution. Contrasting environments, clothing and behaviours showed the same person moving between two realities while remaining connected through a single device. Expressive typography and recurring character interactions created a recognisable system that could evolve across outdoor, retail, social, display, digital content and animation without losing the simplicity of the core idea. The mascots were also designed as flexible brand assets rather than one-off campaign devices. Pose libraries, expressions and recurring behaviours allowed them to respond to different audiences, situations and product messages while maintaining a consistent personality. This gave the platform the potential to support ongoing education and future communications around eSIM. AI was used as a production capability within the broader creative system. I directed character generation, developed consistent pose and expression libraries, and combined AI-assisted imagery with traditional art direction, compositing, retouching and typography. This enabled the campaign world to expand rapidly while protecting consistency across a large number of executions. Commercial Value: • Simplify a technical product feature through a relatable human idea. • Increase awareness and consideration of eSIM. • Reduce the perceived complexity of moving two numbers onto one phone. • Make an otherwise invisible feature more memorable and distinctive. • Strengthen consistency across retail, digital, social and outdoor communications. • Create reusable character assets that could support future product education. • Reduce production time when adapting the campaign across audiences, formats and scenarios. Why This Matters: Double, No Trouble demonstrates how we can turn a functional product benefit into an ownable brand platform. By combining behavioural insight, character-led storytelling and a scalable visual system, the work made a technical feature easier to understand while giving the brand a distinctive creative world capable of extending across the full customer journey.
